Welcome to Tony White's website

Welcome to my website and thank you for your support. When I started playing the saxophone. I had no idea that it would lead me to the life in which I lead today as a musician and educator. Thanks to God my life is rich beyond my wildest imagination. Music has continued to open my mind to all of the various possilbilities to surrounds each and every one of us. I hope this website gives you a better insight to the richness of life. Please support live music as much as you can!

August 2010 Performance Update

I hope everyone is doing well this summer. Kia, Nikos, Sarah and I, enjoyed a wonderful vacation in Hawaii with Grandma Jane and Grandpa Jim. Spending time with the family is what the doctor ordered. We (Kia, Grandma Jane and the kids) had a lot of activities. I myself could not hang, but jumped in when I could!

Unfortunately, we suffered a loss when my curved soprano saxophone was stolen from the rental car. This was a bummer, since I have played that horn at a lot of special occasions. I used that horn to perform at our wedding, and other special performances like playing in the east room of the White House with the Marsalis Family!! Fortunately, I do have insurance and I am looking forward to replacing that horn with a new and better model, and making more memories.

I have been blessed by being able to perform quite a bit in June and July. The last weekend of June was incredible. Gary Fukushima (an extremely talented pianist and friend) played on all gigs with me. He is the real deal! We played on Sunday, June 27 at Alva’s Showroom to a great and wonderful crowd. The band was sounding great! Thanks to Miles Senzaki on Drums, Yu Ooka on Guitar and JP Maramba on Bass. Thank you to everyone who came out to support us at our performances.

In July, the LAUSD All City Jazz Band performed to a well-enthused crowd at the Central Avenue Jazz Festival. The band was solid and the soloists played in the great tradition of jazz. We are looking at maintaining this program for the 2010/2011 season. The students are very excited about this program.

Below is my schedule for August and a performance that will come up in September. Being in California and knowing the economy, we don’t expect you to come out to every performance, but please let your friends (and good strangers for this matter!) know that Gary and I are out there creating some great live music either as a duet or in a larger group setting. If you know of anyone who is looking for Jazz Artists for events, please let them know about us. Hope to see you at one of the events!!
